Dan grew up on the fringes of the UK's Lake District National Park and was raised on a cocktail of fell walking, climbing, skiing, and field hockey.
He first seriously picked up a camera around the age of 14 while producing stopmotion animation and found a pull towards stills photography while taking macro photos of the flora and fauna at an RHS garden (he now can't recall which one). During his GCSE and A-level in Fine Art he pushed the envelope of what was accepted at the time by pursuing digital photography and videography, before freelancing for big names including Channel 4, ITV, and Pinewood/Shepperton. These roles include as an editor, a location scout, and for the latter, a near-BAFTA winning motion capture performer as a car door in the video game adaptation of Mad Max.

He graduated from the University of Leeds with a 1st in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and has largely spent his career working in the medical technology industry. Dan 'daylights' as a Systems Engineer where he is an advocate for the Arts providing valuable transferrable skills and perspectives for the Engineering industry. This could be because he holds a higher A-level grade in Fine Art than he does in Maths and Physics, but that is a source of controversy amongst the 'pure' Engineers he works with.
As a freelance photographer Dan has worked with multiple sports clubs and event organisers including the Leeds Gryphons, the Leeds Roses Ice Hockey Club, and Great Owl Running. On the side he captures digital media for brands looking for outdoor and adventure sports content, plus periodically publishing stills from his own adventures while trying desperately not to become an influencer.
